Celebrate Wyoming People’s History
The Celebrate Wyoming People’s History project uplifts the individuals, groups, events, and movements that have shaped Wyoming’s social and cultural landscape. In partnership with the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative, Alces Community Works is commissioning a new series of posters that honor the state’s often-overlooked histories of labor, community organizing, and collective care. Our inaugural poster celbrating the Black 14 was designed by ALCES creative Conor Mullen with text written by ALCES executive director Aubrey Edwards. This initial collaboration paved the way for more Wyomingites to create their own posters.
ALCES deeply advocates for youth leadership and artmaking in civice space. Partnering with Laramie High School art teachers Justin Deegan and Becca Watson, we invited seven Wyoming high school art students to collaborate with us to research, design, and produce the final posters. These posters will debut in a public exhibition and opening reception at the University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center May 15, 2026.
The completed series will also be published as a book, preserving these stories and artworks as a lasting record of Wyoming’s people’s history.
Our inaugural poster celebrating the Black 14 can be found at Justseeds.org.
