Field Notes is where we document the full range of what ALCES does in the world — beyond our signature projects, and into the everyday work of showing up. Here you'll find the partnerships we've joined, the events we've helped bring to life, the artists and organizers we've lent our resources to, and the short-term projects we've launched in response to what our community needs. It's a record of how we move — responsive, relational, and rooted in the belief that our platform exists to be shared.
PLAY/WRITE
This spring, ALCES Community Works was glad to support Relative Theatrics' PLAY/WRITE showcase, lending creative prop support, tech support, and hospitality to the adult actors bringing nine student-written plays to life on stage. We believe in what happens when kids are trusted with real artistic tools.
RURAL YOUTH LEADERS
Rural Youth Leaders is a new collaborative initiative rooted in place, culture, and the transformative power of youth leadership. Rural Youth Leaders (RYL) is designed to uplift and invest in the leadership of creative young people and the cultural stewards who support them in rural communities.
Youth justice institute
The Youth Justice Institute (YJI) wasrooted in youth voice and action. It supported community-building, civic education, and resource mapping with teens in Albany County from 2021-2025. We supported spaces and programming where young folks can discuss issues that affect them in their communities, explore these issues with adult community leaders, and envision their futures through art making.
