CANDIDATE HAPPY HOUR

Field Notes: Pull Up a Chair (and a Pint)

Democracy, at its best, sounds less like a debate stage and more like a conversation at the next table over. That's the spirit behind the Candidate Happy Hour, happening Friday, July 17th from 5:30–8 pm at 1st Street Plaza — and ALCES Community Works was glad to pitch in with swag for the evening.

The idea is simple: candidates from both parties running for local seats, gathered in one place, ready to talk with the people they hope to serve. No podiums, no talking points — just neighbors meeting neighbors, cold beer in hand (free, while supplies last), on a summer evening in downtown Laramie.

Local seats are where governance touches the ground: school boards, county commissions, city council. And yet they're often the races we know the least about. This Friday, the names on the down-ballot lines don't have to be strangers. Ask the questions that matter to you and get an answer face to face, from a person, not a mailer.

Civic life shouldn't feel like homework. Sometimes it can feel like happy hour. See you at the plaza.
